CloseDr Byrne graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) in 1992. She attended the National Jewish Medical and Research Centre Denver, Colorado, as a Fulbright research scholar (2002-2004) and as a Clinical Allergy Fellow (2007-10). She obtained a PhD in Immunology from the National University of Ireland in 2010 for research into the role of innate immunity in inflammation regulation. She achieved FRCPCH in 2012.
In 2010, Dr. Byrne took up post as the first paediatric allergist at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Liverpool, UK. In January 2014, she established the Paediatric Allergy Department at Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin (CHI at Crumlin).
Dr Byrne is Joint Vice-chair of the Irish Food Allergy Network and Secretary of the Irish Association of Allergy and Immunology. She is also a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI), the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) and the British Society for Allergy & Clinical Immunology (BSACI). She is chair of the Physicians Group in CHI at Crumlin and sits on the hospital Drug Safety Committee.

Dr Cathryn O’Carroll is a Consultant Paediatrician with a special interest in Paediatric Allergy. She is a graduate of RCSI and of UCD. During her paediatric specialist training years, she completed a Masters in Allergy, University of Southampton, UK while pursuing her special interest work under the guidance of Dr Aideen Byrne in CHI at Crumlin. She was appointed to her current consultant post in CHI at Tallaght in 2017. She sees all general paediatric patients as well as those with allergic disease. She aims to provide a holistic care approach with a focus on disease prevention and the promotion of health and wellbeing.

Ruth Charles is a registered Dietitian, working in Paediatrics since 1998. She’s a self-employed independent practitioner at ‘Nutrikids’, dedicated to the nutritional needs of infants, toddlers, children, teenagers and their families. She’s also a practice placement tutor and specialist lecturer on the MSc. Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics in UCD and was appointed to the Dietitian’s Registration Board of CORU from 2013-2020 and chaired the Registration & Recognition Committee and served on the Appeals Committee at CORU 2017-2020. She served as a professional member of the Health and Social Care Professions Council and was deputy chair from 2019-2020. Ruth obtained a PG certification in Paediatric Food Allergy (Imperial College London) in 2011 and founded the Irish Food Allergy Network (IFAN) in October 2011 as a professional support network. Ruth is also a member of the International Network for Diet and Nutrition in Allergy (INDANA).

Dr Yvonne d’Art qualified from Trinity College Dublin. She completed her General Practice training in Wiltshire and worked as a GP in Winchester, where she developed an interest in allergy. She achieved a Diploma in Allergy from the University of Southampton in 2007. She moved to Cork in 2005 where she continues to work part time as a GP, currently in the Weir Practice in Bandon, with 2 other GPs, providing a popular allergy clinic in a primary care setting. Since 2015 she has also worked part time as a NCRC-funded Clinical Research Fellow in Allergy in the Department of Paediatrics in UCC.
